In recent times, industrial expansion has come at the cost of ecosystem degradation. Trees are being cut down at a very high rate to facilitate what is referred to as a “Concrete jungle”. It is estimated that close to 1.09 Crore trees were cut down in the last five years in India.
The chopping down of trees has led to a loss of habitats, degradation of soil quality and an alarming rise in pollution. As a result, air quality has taken a nosedive. It has become a significant cause of major respiratory issues for Indians.
Add wastage of water and ever-increasing plastic usage to the equation. And we have a situation where every other Indian is now suffering from health issues incurred due to ecosystem degradation.

Coming back to its universal impacts, the increase in air pollution has led to what is referred to as the Greenhouse effect. A rise in the concentration of Carbon Dioxide in the air and the rising temperature has further caused Global warming.
