We Indians love our sweets. When success comes knocking, we say it with sweets; no celebration is complete without a wide range of sweet offerings;major milestones are marked by partaking in sugary treats.

India is the world’s top sugar consumer. Consumption of sugar in India is likely to reach 29.35 million tonnes (mt) by 2019-20 from the current level of about 26 mt, according to a study by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham).

The worrisome downside of this is the direct impact of excessive sugar consumption on health. According to the WHO, India stands to be the ‘Diabetes Capital of the World’ with an estimated 50.9 million suffering from diabetes. This figure is likely to go up to 80 million by 2025.
Globally, the daily-recommended intake of sugar is not more than six teaspoons for women and nine teaspoons for men. Since Indians are prone to diabetes, the National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad, recommends a sugar intake of not more than 20 to 25 gm a day for normal adults (approx. five teaspoons of added sugar a day).

Here are some bitter truths.

  • Most of us consume too much sugar without realising it. It is well hidden in processed foods. A single can of cold drink has 7 teaspoons of sugar. A large serving of cold drink can have as much as 44 teaspoons.
  • Chocolates, pastries, candies, fast food, breakfast cereals, ice creams, canned fruit juices, soups, alcoholic drinks and desserts have very high amounts of sugar.

Sugar has calories but none of the vitamins or minerals that our body needs. Excessive sugar accumulates in our bodies, causing health conditions like obesity, tooth decay, diabetes and an impaired immune system.Sugar can also result in diseases associated with metabolism like high cholesterol levels, insulin resistance and increased blood pressure.

As awareness increases about the harmful effects of sugar, more and more people are looking for healthy alternatives.

As awareness increases about the harmful effects of sugar, more and more people are looking for healthy alternatives. Sugar substitutes are a sweet but safe way to satisfy our sweet tooth without compromising on health. There are many low-calorie sweeteners on the market, but most of them are artificial.

Stevia, a natural sweetener has become immensely popular in recent years. Stevia is a 100% natural, zero calorie sweetener with a number of health benefits that have been confirmed in human studies.

QNET’s Nutriplus Natose Stevia Liquid Concentrate is a natural sweetener extracted from leaves of Stevia plant. A natural sugar substitute that does not provide any calories and is ideal for sweetening beverages and food.

We’ll give you 5 reasons to throw our that jar of sugar from your kitchen and switch to Nutriplus Natose Stevia to begin your body’s healing process towards a healthier you.

1. Stevia is very, very potent

The raw leaves of the stevia plant are approximately 40 times sweeter than sugar. Just a tiny bit of stevia will suffice for most of your sugar free recipes.

2. Stevia has no calories

Refined sugar, which has sucrose, contains a lot of calories, resulting in weight gain. NutriplusNatose Stevia sweetener has no calories whatsoever!

3. Stevia is great for diabetes

The reason why sugar is so bad for diabetics is that it contains large amounts of carbohydrates. In order to illustrate which food types are fit for diabetics and which ones aren’t, a system called “the glycemic index” (GI) was developed. Food types with a glycemic index value of less than 50 are considered relatively safe for diabetics; the lower the number, the better. Tabletop sugar has a GI of 80. Stevia has a GI of 0 (yes, zero)!

4. Stevia Regulates Hypertension

For generations, native tribes in South America have been using stevia to sweeten their maté, a type of herbal tea. Aside from the sweetness, they have also been using it to lower blood pressure in people suffering from hypertension. Nowadays, South American doctors even officially prescribe medicine containing stevia to help control high blood pressure.

5. Stevia is good for your teeth

When you consume sugar, an adhesive layer of bacteria is formed on your teeth, causing dental plaque and cavities in the long run. Expert studies have shown that Stevia has antibacterial properties that may help with gingivitis, cavities, tooth decay and mouth sores.
When you add everything up, the benefits of stevia vastly outweigh the temptations of sugar. You owe it to yourself to give QNet’s Nutriplus Natose Stevia Sweetener a try today!
